Oropharyngeal Foreign Body in Infant

Abstract

Introduction: Foreign body aspiration in the airway of children is a life threatening clinical situation responsible for many deaths each year, with children less than two years of age being most commonly affected. Ingestion of a foreign body is a common problem among all age groups and particularly in infants and children as they have a tendency to put any thing in the mouth which may be ingested accidentally. Knowledge of pharyngeal anatomy and associated structures is essential to deal with the removal of a foreign body. Case Report: Reported a case of foreign body (animal toy) in the oropharynx in 5 months old boy and have performed extraction foreign body using Magill forceps under general anesthesia with inhalational method. Conclusion:Early detection and proper removal remain  the important factors in the treatment of foreign body in children. Extraction using Magill forceps technique is useful for foreign body impacted in pharynx and highly cost effective. artikel lengkap
