Surgical Treatment of Ranula by Sublingual Gland Excision

Abstract:

Introduction: Ranula are cystic lesion which result from rupture or damage of ducts of the sublingual glands leading to mucus extravasation or dilatation of the gland's duct. The diagnosis of ranula is based on clinical presentation, histopathological and radiological examination such as Ultrasonography, Computed Tomography scan (CT Scan) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). The treatment of ranula include excision of the ranula only or with involved sublingual gland, marsupialization technique, incision and drainage of the lesion via intraoral approach with various reccurence rate based on each treatment. Case report: A case of ranula had reported in a 16 year old boy who diagnose based on clinical presentation, histological and CT Scan examination. The treatment is excision of ranula including sublingual gland and duct. Conclusion: Excision of sublingual gland is effective  treatment for ranula. artikel lengkap
